Until June, 2005 the biggest claim to fame of the city of Yukon, OK was being the hometown of country music star Garth Brooks.

Now Yukon, OK is famous for a sex scandal involving several members of its 35 officer Police Department. A sex scandal alleging that the Yukon police officers were engaging in sexual relationships with the same woman, a sales clerk at the Conoco convenience store at Main Street and Ranchwood Boulevard, within view of the Yukon Police Department headquarters.

Even more shocking are the allegations that many of the sex acts between the woman and the police officers occurred while the officers were on-duty and that the woman claims she was intimidated into having sexual contact with the officers.

The sex scandal erupted when a customer discovered an on-duty police officer receiving oral sex from the sales clerk, inside the store in early May, 2005. Reportedly the customer informed store own Dianne Rhoades of the incident and Rhoades then confronted the 23 year old sales clerk. Allegedly the woman informed Rhoades that she had many sexual encounters with several Yukon police officers both inside the store and elsewhere over a period of approximately 18 months.

Rhoades reported the incident and allegations to Yukon Police Department supervisors who opened an internal investigation involving several police officers. As the internal investigation widened and the Yukon Police Department sex scandal made news headlines a series of resignations, one firing and one suspension took place.

Corporal Phong Dang Nguyen, 34, resigned after allegedly admitting to an affair with the store clerk.

Corporal David R. Darter, 45, resigned but denied having sex with the clerk.

Officer Darrel J. Williams, 33, resigned but denied having sex with the clerk.

Corporal Chad Mayberry, 29, was fired after refusing to resign.

Sergeant Buddy Guth, 44, received a two-week, unpaid suspension. He was put on probation for a year and will not receive pay increases.

These men and others were accused of on-duty sexual misconduct with the clerk, who claims she was afraid to refuse their advances. In news media reports the sales clerk was quoted as saying:

They have guns. They can do whatever they want. They know the law; they can get around the law. They could kill me and put me somewhere, and nobody would know.

In early July, a City of Yukon spokesperson indicated that the investigation of into the conduct of rank and file police officers was almost complete. In the same statement it was revealed that an investigation into the police department itself was continuing. This aspect of the investigation was focusing on department supervisors, what they knew, when they knew it and what if any action was taken to address the issues raised by the scandal.

News media reports also in early July indicate that the woman, who no longer works at the convenience store, has been interview by the FBI. It was also revealed that she contacted an attorney after speaking with the FBI and that she is considering legal action.

As of the date of this report no criminal charges have been filed against anyone allegedly involved in the Yukon, OK Police Department sex scandal.
