Hall of Shame – Donald D. Thompson
Donald D. Thompson, as District Judge, was the highest ranking judge in Creek County, Oklahoma. From his bench in the Creek County Courthouse in Sapulpa, Thompson held in his hands the power to sentence to prison or to the death chamber those that appeared before him.
He also at times held in his hands a ‘penis pump’ which trial testimony revealed he used to masturbate during various trials, both civil and criminal, including a first degree murder trial, during which he ‘pumped away’ as a grieving grandfather tearfully testified in the trial of the man accused of the murder of a child.
In September, 2004 Thompson resigned his office on the verge of state proceedings to oust him from the bench. In January, 2005 Thompson was charged with four felony counts of indecent exposure on allegations that the used a ‘penis pump’ and masturbated during four trials. Thompson’s trial on those charges began on June 12, 2006 and concluded with a guilty verdict on all counts on June 29, 2006. Thompson was sentenced to one year in prison and $10,000 fine on each count. At sentencing the trial judge ordered Thompson’s sentences to be served consecutively.
Donald D. Thompson through his total disregard for the law he swore an oath to uphold, his refusal to admit his crimes in spite of over-whelming evidence of his guilt and the disgrace he brought to the Oklahoma judiciary is unique in the annals of criminal justice anywhere. Hopefully he is one-of-a-kind, the likes of which we will never see again, anywhere.
