Raye Dawn Smith Trial Starts
The trial of Raye Dawn Smith, accused with child abuse/permitting child abuse, in the death of Kelsey Smith-Briggs, age 2, is set to start today in Creek County District Court in Bristow. The trial was moved to Bristow owing to concerns over finding an impartial jury in Chandler.
The prosecution will be led by Richard Smothermon, who successfully prosecuted “The Masturbating Judge” in the same courthouse last year.
Smith is charged with child abuse or, in the alternative, with enabling child abuse. The states will attempt to prove that Smith either abused her daughter or permitted another to abuse her daughter.
Over the course of her short life Kesley Smith-Briggs suffered repeated injuries including a broken collarbone in January 2005, broken legs in April 2005 and various other injuries and bruising, including injuries in August 2005 which her mother blamed on a pickup truck accident.
Kelsey died of blunt force trauma to the stomach on October 11, 2005. On the day of her death she was alone with both her mother, Raye Dawn Smith, and her step-father Michael Lee Porter, during parts of the day.
Michael Lee Porter was originally charged with first-degree murder and child sexual abuse. He later pleaded guilty to enabling child abuse and is serving a 30-year prison sentence.
If convicted Raye Dawn Smith, age 27, faces up to life in prison.
270 years would not be enough for Raye Dawn for what that little baby had to endure.This little baby girl’s picture,is in my mind all day long,and in my dreams.They could have given her to me,She would have been perfectly safe with.And playing with dolls,and watching cartoons,and eating sweet cereal.:(
She is with God now.To even imagine the suffering this little girl went through is not anything I can wrap my brain around.Just a pancreas attack is awful pain,but to be beat until the pancreas bursts,I don’t get it,I need someone to help me understand,what ever could Kelsey do to deserve that? Could the mother (yeah right) please explain to me how you allowed this to happen?If someone were hurting my children,even now that they are grown,I would be all over them to stop.And I would stop them.You could have stopped him.
And to the evil,twisted,sick,pathetic,joke,of a male could you please tell me how you could inflict pain on a Baby Girl like that?
If I could have one wish right now,it would be one hour alone or in the street in broad daylight with each of you.
I would not even waste my spit on either of you.I would do to both of you exactly what you did to Kelsey.

This is definitely a tragic story and the amount of time the mom and stepdad got isn’t near enough. What about the judge who sent Kelsey home to those evil people? What kind of punishment is he getting for sending her home to her “unknown abuser”?
This woman is no mom.She is the devil and was living with the devil.that poor sweet and beautiful baby deserved way better.Now she can rest without pain.They both need to rot in HELL.I hope the people in prison tear them up.
I think that the dad should be able to take that so called man out back and kick and beat him till he dies..he should be able to make it last as long as that poor baby had to put up with it……and for that woman how called her self Kelsey’s mom should get the same….but about TEN times more…..She was her mom…the one person in this world that was supposed to protect her……I have a two year old little boy….and if any body was to ever put their hand or finger on him…I would be in jail for murder……….This is the saddest story i have ever read in my life……. A man who steals a childs innocense is one of the greatest of evil that there can be. The man should hang for it but it is probably better for punishment to get gang raped for life in prison.

I cant imagine Raye Dawn looking into Kelsy’s eyes and allowing the abuse that Kelsy suffered to continue. I at times feel like a horrible mother for raising my voice and not allowing my children to play late or eat junk food all day. Just to see them break into tears at times cuz i tell them no and you Ray Dawn to look into her eyes and let that man beat her is unfathomable. But you must of beat her also that is the only reasoning i can conclude to as to why you never stopped it. Shame on you, Shame on you!!
I’m not usually a supporter of capital punishment but what else can we do with these people?? I just hope people are making their lives a living hell in prison!!! They aren’t human beings!! Darleen got it right when she called them freaks!
I shudder to think what this little girls daddy must be going through! What he must want to do to these freaks!!!
I really am speechless… To lori, with respect… Her mother could be forgiven the first time, but the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th time till you get to her DEATH!!! Im not so sure! But she doesn’t need anyone elses forgiveness but Kelsy’s- she may have to answer to her some day! If I were Kelsy, I wouldn’t forgive her! But that little girl is stronger than I will EVER be!
This case has been haunting me for a while. I have read numerous things about this case. I must say that I don’t believe that Ray Dawn Smith had anything to do with what happened to her daughter. If you investigate more on this case you will question it yourself. I also do not think that her father Lance Briggs had anything to do with what happened to Kelsey either. I do not know what the Jury saw or heard in the court room but, just read this article that I found at Oklahoma Exclusive. It is very long and the pictures are not shown here.

oh my goodness. This story had me crying. It is so sad that this had to happen to her so young. She was a beatuful little girl and did not deserve to die this way. That was not a mom if she couldnt see what was going on and do something about it. I am terribly sorry for what had happend. And Kelsey will always be in my prayers.
Its sad to see that this little girl had to go threw so much pain.Its hard for me to see anyone hurting a child.As a soldier in the US ARMY I took an oath to protect our country again foreign and domestic enemies.These people who hurt this child would make my list.I wish I could have been there to defend her.I forgive them but there is a penalty that has to be paid.This child is at peace with God.God knows what he is doing and may he have mercy own their souls.I surely would have torn both of them apart with my bear hands.May God bless the Father and heal his mourning heart.
First off, Poor little Kelsey should not even be refered to as that woman’s(IDIOT that neglected her needs)daughter. So let’s just leave the name Smith right out of there. I don’t know what to say….My heart goes out to the loving family that tried so desparately to save her, keeping their gorgeous baby Kelsey out of harms way. Let her smile at you in your dreams and on all of your days ahead. The happy times you shared are the most important for you to now remember. On special dates it must be a celebration of life, rather than a sad time. God bless your family.

This is the sickest thing I have EVER heard of in my entire life..
