Coburn’s Frat Boys At It Again
Senator Tom Coburn’s ‘frat boy staff’ is at it again.
This time with a mis-directed e-mail and as usual it was Senator Coburn’s communications director, John Hart that managed to make a fool of himself, embarrassing the Senator and Oklahomans in the process.
The latest Coburn staff screw-up came in relation to the now over battle between Senator Coburn and Senator Nelson of Nebraska. The two battled over an ‘earmark’ Nelson attempted to direct to 21st Century Systems Inc., a company for whom his son Patrick works. An ‘earmark’ which Senator Nelson has since withdrawn.
John Hart, in his usual shoot from the hip and see what you hit manner, wrote in what was supposedly an e-mail to other Coburn staff members and in regard to Senator Nelson:
This will shut that f—er up. and I can’t wait to send an In Case You Missed It to Nebraska press that will be forwarded to a–face.
Then in a ‘reply to all followup’, Coburn’s legislative director Roland Foster, replied:
media calls should be directed to Nelson’s hairdresser and his son’s probation officer.
Now, had all this fun and games been confined to the Coburn staff it would have been one thing, but alas when ’shooting from the hip’ John Hart seldom hits his target and sure enough rather than another Coburn staffer getting the e-mail, Hart managed to address it to a staffer of Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.
And of course it got passed on….
Coburn chief of staff Mike Schwartz quickly jumped into damage control mode when questioned if the exchange reflected Coburn’s attitude toward Nelson’s office.
Schwartz said, No, no, no. I’ve seen this war of words escalating with both staffs … it was a dumb thing for my staffers to do.
And Schwartz is right, it was dumb.
Had this been only a single incident of ‘out of control frat boys’ it would be one thing.
But this fiasco is but the latest in a string of similar incidents on the part of Senator Tom Coburn’s ‘frat boy staff’.
Eventually there comes a time when one has to grow up and act like an adult.
With the approval rating of Congress running at 15 percent, half that of President Bush, it’s time that members of Congress and their staffs started acting more like adults and less like a bunch of frat boys at a keg party.
And this certainly goes for Congressional staffers…

It also goes for Senators and Congressmen themselves.
In every organization, the person at the top sets the tone. These emails are almost certainly typical of everyday business in “Dr. Tom’s” offices. Coburn can’t fire the offenders, because he is the leader in this childish c***.
It’s all because Coburn has nothing but contempt for government in general and for the Senate in particular, as well as contempt for his own const**uents. Read the comments at the Tulsa World article linked above – “Senate earmark turns very personal.”
