Tulsa In Turmoil – Part Whatever

The city leaders of Tulsa Oklahoma just recently purchased a big glass box building downtown reportedly for about $52 million plus tossing in around another $20 million for incidentals involved in moving City Hall.

Granted the City of Tulsa is over-run with crime, the streets are a disgrace, for the past several summers Tulsa has not been able to afford to open even 1/4 of its swimming pools, or keep the weeds mowed on city property or even keep the lights on along the expressways.

But by-golly we an afford to spend over $70 million for a new City Hall.

And maybe even pay the major portion of the $282 million cost to ‘put water in the Arkansas River’.

And now Mayor Kathy Taylor wants to buy her own personal police chief.

Thus far she’s found no takers, well except for an ‘interim chief’ from Delaware, that apparently can not or maybe it is will not become CLEET certified as a law enforcement officer in Oklahoma. An interim chief that is anxious to get the heck out of Tulsa and who can blame him, what with Tulsa’s crime rate and all?

In her latest move to consolidate her ‘kingdom’, Mayor Taylor tried to hire Deputy Chief of Police Bill Wells as her personal police chief. She had previously refused to hire Wells as Tulsa’s Chief of Police, so evidently she may have thought that he would like to work for her instead of the citizens of Tulsa.

Wells, wisely refused stating that he could not agree to work as an ‘at-will employee’ of the Mayor. And who can blame him or anyone for refusing to become the mayor’s puppet at the Tulsa Police Department.

While I can not speak for others, in my opinion Mayor Taylor is simply trying to make sure that she and she alone dictates Tulsa Police Department policy, which might not be a bad deal for Taylor owing to her daughter’s arrest record for drunk driving and at the hands of none other than the Tulsa Police Department.

At least with her own personal police chief, if/when Taylor’s daughter goes out for a night of drinking and driving Taylor could simply call up her personal police chief and order him to provide an escort home for her daughter and like a good little puppet, the chief would have no recourse but to do Taylor’s bidding.

Of course Taylor could have other motives for wanting a personal police chief, like a reduced crime rate.

The past few years Tulsa has had a terrible murder rate and its on a pace to set a new record this year.

Bad publicity.

So what better way to make Tulsa look better than having total control of the police department and the crime statistics? Murder, what murder? Just because the guy was shot 47 times does not mean he did not commit suicide!

I would say, “joking aside”, but honestly folks I’m not joking.

The only joke played of recent regarding Tulsa was the election of Kathy Taylor as Mayor.
