The Death of Bailey Thrasher
A horror story played out this weekend in Yukon and Mustang, Oklahoma. This horror story did not start this past weekend but rather three years ago.
It ended in tragedy on this Labor Day weekend when Robert Paul Roberson, age 32, murdered his “ex-girlfriend”, Bailey Rian Thrasher, age 16.
As if the age difference between the two is not shocking enough, news media reports indicate that Thrasher became Roberson’s “girlfriend” when she was only 13-years-old and attending an alternative school, where Roberson was her drill-instructor.
More shocking are news media reports that indicate that shortly after Roberson met his child victim that they moved into an apartment and lived together.
And most shocking of all are news media reports that indicate that Bailey’s father, Darin Thrasher, the owner of Sid’s Diner in Yukon, knew fully of the relationship and did not put a stop to it.
In a coprighted report in the Tulsa World on September 3rd, it was revealed:
Darin Thrasher knew better but said he thought the situation might benefit his daughter because Roberson didn’t drink or do drugs and the father thought he would be a good example.
That same article, a link to which appears below, quoted Darin Thrasher as saying, “I thought it would be a positive for her. Then I also thought the relationship would fizzle out and she would be done partying.
Reportedly, over the course of the relationship, Robert Paul Roberson became more and more abusive and threatening. Eventually a point came where Bailey Thrasher moved out of the apartment she shared with Roberson and moved into an apartment she shared with her sister.
News media reports thus far do not provide a detailed time line of the tragedy as it played out over the course of three years, however one can reasonably assume that over time Roberson’s anger over the “spit up” built and built until the he reached a point of no return.
The point of no return was reached early Saturday morning when Roberson, reportedly wielding a shotgun, burst into the Yukon apartment where Bailey was living, lined everyone up against the wall and said that unless Bailey came with him he would kill everyone present.
Bailey Thrasher reportedly decided to leave her apartment with Roberson, stating as she left, “He won’t hurt me.”
News reports indicate that Bailey managed to call 911 before leaving with Roberson. A Yukon police officer arrived just as Roberson was speeding away with Bailey. The Yukon officer gave chase and was later joined in the chase by a Canadian County sheriff’s deputy. They chased the car driven by Roberson on Highway 152 in Mustang and eventually one of the officers “bumped” the rear of the suspect vehicle causing it to spin out and stall.
As the two officers approached the car they saw that Roberson was stabbing the female passenger.
Reportedly, they ordered him to stop and put the knife down, but he continued to stab her at which point both officers pulled their service weapons and shot numerous times, killing Roberson.
Unfortunately, Bailey Thrasher died in the car also, a victim of the stab wounds.
News media reports indicate that at age 13 Bailey Thrasher was a troubled child, into illicit drugs and “partying” which explains her being in an “alternative school” with drill instructors. News media reports indicate that at age 16 Bailey Thrasher had turned her life around and was a responsible and productive member of society that wanted to become a teacher.
That Bailey Thrasher left her apartment with Robert Paul Roberson under his threat to kill her and everyone there speaks volumes of the courage of this young woman. We will never know if Baily actually believed her statement, “He won’t hurt me”. What we do know is that this young woman left with a man who had previously abused and terrified her and did so in hopes of saving those she loved.
That makes her a genuine hero in a story sorely lacking of heroes otherwise.
While we can all sympathize with the family of Bailey Thrasher on her loss, the fact remains that to a large degree Bailey’s death could have been prevented.
Three years ago, had any of Bailey’s family members, friends or fellow students that were aware of the illicit relationship between Bailey Thrasher and Robert Paul Roberson done the “right thing” and gone to the police, the sheriff or to the DHS, Robert Paul Roberson would likely still be in prison and Bailey Thrasher would be alive today.
It is NEVER a good thing when a 13-year-old is in a relationship with a person 16 years their senior. There is no way “the situation might benefit” a young person in such a relationship because the adult is a warped, degenerate criminal with absolutely no idea of how to be “a good example” for the younger person otherwise they would not be in a relationship with a 13-year-old.
That anyone in their right mind would even consider a relationship between a 13-year-old and a 29 or 30-year-old as being one that would “benefit” the child is ridiculous on its face.
That anyone would trust that an adult with a warped, degenerate and criminal mind could set a “good example” for a 13-year-old with whom they are having a sexual relationship flies in the face of all logic.
And anyone that had knowledge of the illicit relationship between then 13-year-old Bailey Thrasher and Robert Paul Roberson and failed to report that relationship to law enforcement or DHS violated the law and is in fact a criminal that deserves to be arrested, tried, convicted and sentenced to prison. Which is where where Robert Paul Roberson belonged and should have been.
Had anyone, anywhere along the way, over the course of the past three years had the courage to do “the right thing”, it is very likely that Bailey Thrasher would be alive today and you would not be reading this.
It really is THAT simple…

Why is there not a huge public outcry to put the sorry, lazy, i****ic excuse of a father (and where’s the mother?!) of this girl behind bars? He should never have ANY contact with ANY child ever again. He’s as responsible for this crime as the murderer is.

Ashley, everyone needs to dwell on both the sick freak that murdered Bailey and *each and everyone that knew of this sick relationship and looked the other way* for three years.
The age-of-consent in Oklahoma is 16-years-old. Any sexual activity between an adult and a child under the age of consent is a felony offense. Anyone aware of that crime being committed and not notifying either law enforcement or DHS is a criminal and should be treated accordingly.
Had anyone over the course of approximately three years that was aware of this sick relationship done the right thing we likely would not even be discussing this today and Bailey would likely still be alive.
I’m sorry if this bluntness offends or hurts you but the fact is that when adults fail to protect children from dangers and criminality of which they are aware those adults are just as responsible as the original offender…
I heard rumors of this a long time ago. I don’t usually get too excited about high-schoolers gossiping. I don’t think I could have done anything but I wish I’d listened more closely. Ashley, I’m so very sorry. I don’t know if it’s any comfort, but where Bailey is now, she’s not having to deal with monsters any more. The school where Mr. Monstrous worked was a godsend to my family. What a horrible string of errors that led this poor family to this unthinkable tragedy. People who are making a**umptions and judging the family for being bad parents and bad relatives by not reporting this and gettin something done sooner dont have any idea what you are talking about and only get a small piece of the story and what really happend from this article. None of you knew Bailey or her family. Bailey was actually my cousin we were not really close as we would talk all the time but they were always the highlight of the family reunions and you could always count on them to bring along the karaoke machine. Bailey was tryin to pull away from robert because things were getting bad and she jus finally told her dad about things last monday. And they went to get a vpo that day. So he did try and do something about it as soon as he was aware. Sounds like a good dad to me. They got the VPO and robert dissappeared so they thought the problem was solved. But really he was away plotting to come back with revenge. There is only so much you can do in a situation like this. They tried to prevent his threats of killing the family from happening but they still had to go on living their lives. So sadly Friday he came back with rage and kidnapped her and killed her in anger. Yes there is a big age difference but look at what this guy was doing for a living. Who would think he would turn out to be a complete weirdo and kill someone. I dont see how he didnt show signs of being dangerous at his job and get turned in years ago. This has been a complete tragedy for the family and friends and everyone who knew and loved Bailey. Its terrible that people are jus seeing this as a “what was the dad thinking” situation and not for the crazy man that took an innocent young womans life. Thats all that people need to get out of this. Bailey did not deserve to die especially the way she did. I hope to God she felt no pain and went peacefully to be with the Lord. The school involved was The Gary E. Miller, Canadian County Childrens Justice Center. Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs, and The Juvenile Bureau. They share a parking lot with DHS.
The alternative school was for kids that had gotten into trouble with the court system. Robert Paul Robertson worked for the school as a drill instructor. In other words, boot camp instructor. At one point he also worked for The Community Action Agency which is apart of DHS. He had friends in law enforcement not only in Yukon, but all of Canadian County. I believe this is the reason the restraining order was filed in Oklahoma City.
Roberson did not teach this fall.
When the father let his daughter move in with this man, there wasn’t a relationship going on, Roberson had a spotlessly clean criminal record, was highly regarded by his peers.
I truly believe alot of enforcement officers were aware of problems going on with Roberson. Just as many were aware of the scandel at Conoco yet no one said a word until the 5 officers were caught red handed.
A private citizen can’t do anything if law enforcement look the other way.

Ashely, my heart goes out to you and your family. I can’t imagine what you all are going through. I think that by you telling the story that no one else has heard, it may help people back off a little. I admit, it angered me because it seemed like her day knew about everything but yet didn’t do anything until it was almost too late. None of the news stories tell us when she finally talked to her dad about it. I do think that it was wrong for him to allow her to live with someone twice her age. That is rape no matter how you look at it. She was underage. It was statutory rape. It may have been her choice to sleep with him at first but if he was forcing her by gun point to have sex with him, that is rape and she should have gone to her dad and the police when it first happened. I can understand why she went with him, she did what she felt she needed to to save her family and friends. I would have done the same thing had I been in her position. She gave her life to protect the lives of the ones she loved. It is obvious that she tried to get away from him and I’m sure that she was too terrified to do anything about it any earlier. It seems as though she made that choice in order to save her family from this monster. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers, as well as his family members. It IS an alternative school. The only trouble w/ courts my kid ever had was a traffic ticket and smoking cigs. He just played around too muh in regular school. Brought his GPA up 60% at CCEC, graduated with his cla**. Roberson made them do pushups and such if they mouthed off or didn’t do their work. They go home to their families every night; it isn’t a boot camp. I know when I met Roberson he didn’t strike me as a monster, but then, they never do. Ashley makes a good point, his family deserve sympathy too.

The entire family did what they could to end this relationship as soon as they found out- Bailey hid it for as long as she could. This was a relationship that should have never began, but when Robert met Bailey- He became obsessed & had other teenage victims- but my poor niece was the only true sick obsession he could not leave alone. He said all the right stuff & acted like A knight in shining armor & made her fall for it. Like when I was A teenager- I did what I wanted- tell me not to do it & I wanted it more. The police will not be able to build A case if the victim refuses to come forward- She did not want to come forward & was scarred for her life & her families lives until last week. Robert threatened if anyone told of their relationship, he would kill himself, or her & all of us (Her dad,step-mom,brothers,sisters,aunts,uncles,etc). My niece was protecting her entire family from being ma**acred. He would threaten her that if she would not come over to be with him, he would kill the whole family, so she quietly went to him with no one knowing to protect the one’s she loved. He would hold her at gun point for hours to make her stay with him. No one has any idea what our family has had to go through, especially my brother & Bailey. We have lived in fear for months from this monster & Our family is hurting deeply with this senseless criminal act, my niece was murdered-Robert is the Bad guy & is where he belongs- Bailey is A Hero, Her Father-Darin-is an Awesome father to all 5 of his children, & Bailey saved many lives-Bottom Line!! Well I fell like I need to let everyone know the actions of the real Father.
He has been into drugs his complete life when the babies was born he was so crazy tried to pull a gun on his wife and shoot it and barley missed his daughter then. Every one on the other side of the Family hate’s this dead beat. He is currently sealing drugs out of their Business and his home now. He lied to the state of Oklahoma about there income and has state insurance on his kids now. He admits that he let her move with this 32 year old sick’o and now the state of Oklahoma should prosecute him for letting his daughter be put in this position. What will he do with the rest of his kids? As far as any cost for the funeral he did not offer to pay one penny due to lack of responsibility. There mother had insurance that covered the complete funereal her step dad paid where he wouldn’t now they are running a scam to get money. We are talking about a complete trailer trash people that everyone should be able to see threw. Thank god his oldest daughter got away from this dead beat for a dad. Someone should find out just how much child support he paid on his kids then they will see what a real looser this man is. And then to go on TV for his benefit makes me sick. Time will tell how he deals with the district attorney and there charges to him. I can’t wait to see this looser go to jail with all the rest of the loser’s like him. You apparently don’t know our family & how much love we share & how much Bailey loved her entire family- especially her dad & mom,& of course her siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins,& all family members.
My brother loves his children more than anything & supports them always. He did not allow her to move in with this sicko, she ran away to move to be with this brain washing pervert, she was determined to do what she wanted & what Robert made her do & we all did things to prevent it & authorities were notified on several occasions by several people, but did no investigations on any of the reports, Bailey & Robert both would deny to anyone that they were together. My brother tried several times to get her to go with him to the authorities & she was scarred & refused, they would not do anything without her telling it & admitting it. Everyone that knew Bailey loved her, wanted the best for her, & did what was humanly possible to help her in every way possible. My brother had nothing to do with the memorial fund at All, I set it up myself along with A friend of the family’s that is A great customer & vice president of the bank- So don’t talk when you have no idea what you are saying- I set it up to help with other things that have not been paid for-like A nice headstone & anything else her mother & father decide to do with it for Bailey. All funds raised are being split between the mother & father, the statements are in the mothers name & they are thankful I set it up for them. No one is tring to make money off of our families horrible nightmare, so again- unless you know the facts, you should keep your thoughts in your own head & not lie to others. We are a christian family & are members of Victory Christian Center of Warr Acres, my brother is the one who got the whole family starting to go to this church over 7 years ago, Thanks to Darin, Bailey was saved by the blood of Jesus Christ at our chuch that we are all regular members of & is in heaven in peace, so everyone should let her rest in peace. Yes, we are not perfect, but there is only one who is. My side of the family has had A very difficult life since we were born, & yes he used to do drugs & was an alcoholic for years, but thanks to the Lord, he has been drug & alcohol free for over 10 years now & we are changing our family tree with the help of the Lord. Whoa. Way to pa** judgment on people in a terrible time. I’m an outsider and it DOES look bad. But it’s not my place to judge and publicly condemn a whole family, especially on the internet while hiding behind initials. No matter whose fault it was, Bailey’s father WILL pay and pay for the rest of his life. I’d hate to be in his sh**s, with my kid dead and always wondering what I could have done differently.

I didn’t really know Bailey, but I ran into her a few times, she waited on me at the restraunt and everything, but I went to her service a couple of weeks ago and ever since then I can’t seem to go a day without thinking about her. She had a rough life, but it seemed to finally be turning around and going somewhere until this man ended it. I am a strong christian and I know Bailey is in heaven today. I pray that I never stop thinking about Bailey. I wish i could have had the pleasure of being her friend. God bless the family and friends. Bailey was raped and her “father” a**isted through his actions and his inactions. Pure and simple. And a “loving god” would not put a child (a 16yo is a child) in a position to be raped and stabbed to death.
As far as the rest of the family goes, I am sorry for your loss. I hope you have learned a lesson here and will never ever allow a child to go through what Bailey went through. If you haven’t, well then you all have doubly earned the hell you are living through.

Don’t make any excuses. Bailey is dead because YOU ALL made excuses for your own inactions. The only compa**ion that I, as a rational mother can have, is for Bailey’s younger siblings.

I’m not sure why everyone feels the need to place blame on someone after anything happens. The main point is, this young woman died at the hands of some sick and twisted man who snapped one night. Who knows what set him off, but the father really did hope for the best for his daughter. Although his reasoning wasn’t as good as it could be- Many of you could have better reasoning skills yourselves- he was trying to be a helpful father while at the same time trying not to impede on his daughter’s preferences. Any parent knows that this is a hugely difficult thing to do. He may have figured his daughter would rebel against him despite his wishes. It may have been safer for him to know what she was doing rather than to look the other way, because in his mind it could be worse if he did that. It is just unfortunate that the man she was with turned out to be a psychopath.

someone did try to do something they talked to workers at the dhs juvenile correctional fecelity that this nut case worked at but nothing was done to this officer the father was also spoken to and informed something could be done to discourage this man from having anything to do with bailey anymore but the father said ”no let the law handle it” i for one am hurt,saddened and disgraced at the way this was handled and Bailey’s death if i ever see this again going on,i will not fail to correct this situation myself f*** dhs,f*** that juvenile corrections center and f*** that son of a b**** that killed her and SHAME on the ones that new and didn’t do anything about it,if only i would have taken things in my own hands i could’ve ended this and the guilt would’ve been on my hands and Bailey would still be alive to this day to say she loves us everyday and carry on to live her wonderful life.
