Shame on QuickTrip

Tulsa based QuickTrip should be ashamed of itself.

Why?

Not for something QuickTrip is doing but rather for something it is not doing.

Namely, it is not telling its customers that it may be selling them “blended gasoline” and doing so without their knowledge.

Granted, as QuickTrip spokesman Mike Thornbrugh points out, there is no law requiring QuickTrip to inform customers that it is selling them “doctored gasoline”. However being upfront and honest with customers is a much better policy than simply saying “the law doesn’t require us to tell the truth to our customers”.

And honestly, the owners of newer vehicles probably have little if anything to worry about if their cars and trucks are running in part on “corn squeezins” as those vehicles are designed to handle less than pure gasoline.

But that is not true for the owners of older vehicles that are not designed to run on any fuel which includes ethanol and which will gum up faster, loose performance and see reduced gasoline mileage after a few tanks full of gasoline mixed with 10 percent “corn squeezins”.

Undoubtedly if Oklahoma enacts legislation requiring gasoline sellers to notify their customers when their gasoline contains ethanol QuickTrip will comply. Such a law is probably a good idea for the next legislative session in February 2008.

However a much better scenario would involve QuickTrip and all other vendors that are selling “blended gasoline” be honest and upfront with their customers now.

It’s the least they can do…
