Feeling the Heat at ORU
Two new newsworthy events have taken place today as the flames of scandal enveloping Richard Roberts and Oral Roberts University continues to intensify.
Bishop Carlton Pearson, a former protege of Richard Roberts appeared on CNN Tuesday morning and said that the allegations against Oral Roberts University president Richard Roberts are disappointing but not surprising.
Pearson went on to say, “These kinds of things are common. When you don’t inspect, you don’t find problems. This is very bothersome, very hurtful.”
Pearson, an ORU graduate, has known Richard Roberts for 36 years and served on the ORU Board of Regents until he began preaching that belief in Jesus Christ was not necessary for salvation.
Later on Tuesday the National Council for Community Empowerment showed up at Oral Roberts University demanding Richard Roberts, Oral Roberts’ president and the founder’s son, resign his position.
The group said it was representing ORU students and presented a letter the group says calls for the end of what the group calls “nepotism and self-indulgent leadership” at the university.
Pastor David Bullock, Chair of the National Council for Community Empowerment, said, “We don’t think that the God defense works anymore. It’s kind of like the race defense. We believe that the allegations are very sincere, very serious, students are speaking out, they’re signing an online petition even right now as we speak.”
Richard Roberts is scheduled to appear on “Larry King Live” at 8 p.m. tonight…

Good heavens! I’ve worked with those ORU people and the Roberts are as kooky as they come. I hope that the darkness is exposed and justice is served. We have a friend whose daughter is in the same dorm as the Robert’s daughter and it’s true…they knocked out a wall to make one room out of two for this freshman girl.
Well of course they did. Do you really expect a daughter of royalty like that not to get special treatment? Why do people act so shocked when this stuff happens?
