Bells Toll For Randi And Rick
The 2007 Tulsa State Fair is history, just like Bell’s Amusement Park at the Tulsa Fairgrounds.
So how did the Tulsa State Fair do without it’s mainstay tenant of the past 50 plus years?
Attendance at the 2007 Tulsa State Fair was down 7 percent over last year.
Food and beverage concessions were down 4 percent over last year.
Mega Ride Pass sales were down 17 percent over last year.
And most telling of all – midway coupon sales declined a whopping 29 percent over last year’s numbers.
Odds are that Randi Miller and Rick Bjorklund never thought for a minute that so many Fair patrons would become former Fair patrons over the ouster of Bell’s Amusement Park from the Tulsa Fairgrounds.
Lo and behold, as with just about everything else Randi Miller tries, the Bell’s ouster blew up in her face also and Jerry Murphy rather than “making a killing” with zero competition for midweay dollars actually say revenues drop like a rock.
Can there be any doubt that folks sent a loud and clear message to the Tulsa County Commissioners and Tulsa County Fair Board?
And this years shrinking Fair is only the start.
Odds are that next year’s Fair will see even greater revenue decreases compared to 2006.
There was one area in which the 2007 Tulsa State Fair saw a huge increase in numbers over last year – injuries from accidents on midway rides were up 400% over 2006.
But the real fun will start after next year’s Tulsa State Fair, when the folks start arriving for the Arabian Horse Show encounter protesters, picking out at the Fairgrounds.
Meantime Randi and Rick, you two might want to start looking for work elsewhere because the bell is tolling for your employment in Tulsa County…
