Media Circus Continues At ORU

The media circus continues to swirl around Oral Roberts University in Tulsa.

On Friday, a second petition was filed in the ORU lawsuit. The petition amends the lawsuit adding allegations that Lindsay Roberts, wife of ORU President Richard Roberts, spent the night in the university’s guest house with an underage male on 9 separate occasions. The second petition reportedly states that there are 29 photos of Mrs. Roberts and the underage male alone in her sports car after city-wide curfew.

The amended petition also adds the ORU Board of Regents as defendants and makes the allegation that Roberts and the board gave a convicted sexual deviant unrestricted access to the students of the university as a “mentor.”

There are also allegations that only three days after the original lawsuit was filed that ORU and Roberts terminated ORU’s financial comptroller and that witnesses have reported that voluminous materials and documents were shredded and destroyed.

On Saturday statements were issued on behalf of both ORU and Lindsay Roberts. Mrs Lindsay Roberts’ statement says:

Allegations against me in a lawsuit yesterday are not true. They sicken me to my soul.

Lindsay Robert’s statement also said:

I live my life in a morally upright manner and throughout my marriage have never, ever engaged in any sexual behavior with any man outside of my marriage as the accusations imply.

The statement attributed to the university said:

The allegations that the university employed a sexual deviant are untrue. The allegations that the university purposely or improperly destroyed documents are also untrue.

With all these new, juicy and of course scandalous accusations surfacing every few days odds are it won’t be long before someone decides to turn this fiasco into a made-for-tv movie. One that might be titled, “What would a 900-foot Jesus do?”…

One Response to “Media Circus Continues At ORU”

  1. I don’t care for Richard Roberts but know the City of Tulsa has always done well with ORU bringing in families and teaching biblical truths. Who am I to judge if they did or didn’t follow their own teachings. (I knew Carlton Pearson personally and as a friend was forced to divorce myself from his perspectives) One should wonder what the city would be like without ORU?

I can remember when the “City of Faith” was to be a hospital for the purpose of training students from ORU. The “City of Tulsa” and area hospitals shut them down saying there was no need for any new medical facilities. You are aware of how many hospitals and medical facilities were built after the competition was squelched.
At least the “Cityplex Towers” have been able to lease space and bring new business into the Tulsa area in spite of the scandals.

(IMHO these stories look petty on all counts but it makes news headlines and is something to talk about around the coffee pot.)
