LeFlore County Commissioner Cuffed and Stuffed

On Tuesday, LeFlore County Commissioner Carroll Wayne Rogers, 54, was arrested at the LeFlore County Courthouse, cuffed, stuffed and hauled off to Muskogee where he was to appear before a federal judge.

Doing the honors of taking in Commissioner Rogers were FBI Special Agent James A. Dawson, and State Fire Marshall Agents Gene Wheat and Tony Rust.

On Wednesday, Rogers appeared in federal court for the unsealing of the indictment against him.

That federal indictment alleges that between May 2002 and August 2006, Rogers and others schemed to defraud two insurance companies by purchasing properties, insuring them for more than their value, then causing the properties to be damaged or destroyed by fire.

The indictment says Rogers, charged with five counts of mail fraud, was aided in the scheme by five unindicted co-conspirators. These unindicted co-conspirators reportedly include Rogers wife Kathy Rogers who is a Spiro schoolteacher and an unnamed former Le Flore County commissioner.

Rogers, long rumored to have been “close to” a remarkable number of fires, most suspected to have been the result of arson, was arrested on allegations of insurance and wire fraud.

Reportedly, at least three suspicious fires destroyed homes in LeFlore County where Rogers had some degree of involvement.

For example:

On May 6, 2003, Rogers home in Spiro which was at the time being remodeled, was destroyed in a suspicious fire.

On July 22, 2004, a home supposedly belonging to Rogers stepdaughter in Spiro was destroyed by a suspicious fire.

On March 1, 2005, the home of George Moody a Rogers employee home in Spiro was destroyed in a suspicious fire. Reportedly Rogers had previously owned Moody’s home, and is believed to have exercised ownership of the property at the time of the loss.

Then there’s the matter of insurance claims, such as:

In December 2005, Rogers claimed damages to a dilapidated trailer and a vacant home which were damaged by a grass fire. Then there was incidents in March 2002 and April 2006 where Rogers claimed hail damage to the roof of his residence.

Of course none of this proves that Commissioner Rogers is a “dirty, rotten crook”. Proving that will be up to the feds. However, has anyone ever known a person with the uncanny knack for so much “bad luck” as Commissioner Rogers and in such a short period of time?

Yeah, me neither.

And expect a really big Bubbaworld report on the Chairman of the LeFlore County Commission, as the allegations against Commissioner Rogers typify what we at Bubbaworld have been saying for a few years now. That being that LeFlore County, Oklahoma is one of, if not the most, corrupt counties in Oklahoma.

And having the Chairman of the LeFlore County Commissioners hauled off to jail in handcuffs and belly chains does demonstrate the point very clearly…
