The ORU Dog and Pony Show

The dog and pony show continues at Oral Roberts University.

On Wednesday Richard Roberts the former President and CEO of Oral Roberts University told students at a chapel service that he did not want to resign as head of the scandal-plagued university, but that he did so because God insisted during a conversation with Roberts on Thanksgiving Day.

Evidently God changed his mind, because early in the scandal did not Richard Roberts assure us that God told him to fight the allegations against himself, his wife and the ORU administration?

On well, God moves in mysterious ways, especially around Oral Roberts University where a 900 tall Jesus reportedly roamed the campus during the 1980′s and where God threatened to kill Oral Roberts if the faithful did not raise $8 million a few years later.

To make matters even more interesting, news media reports indicate that Pat Robertson, who himself has been known for outlandish statements and goofy views is courting ORU. Robertson has indicated that he is looking to partner with Oral Roberts University and that he is sending a team to Tulsa on Monday to explore a future partnership between the two universities.

Who knows, maybe Robertson figures that he needs to hook up with the 900 foot tall Jesus for help in carrying out assassinations of foreign leaders, wiping out sinners with massive hurricanes and other Robertson proposals.

And of course ORU could use Robertson’s management skills, as you don’t hear of Regent University, Robertson’s Christian college, having trouble making payroll or keeping the doors open.

With all this craziness going on you have to wonder what will happen next down on South Lewis.

Regardless of what happens, you can safely bet that it will continue to be a dong and pony show.

It has been for over 40 years now…

  1. Looks more like rats scurrying off a sinking ship than a dog and pony show. All the scams and misdeeds are coming home to roost. It’s called karma, something these pentecostal ministers should read up on soon!

  2. It’s no secret within the ivory tower chambers of the charismatic christian Higher Education community that for years dubious behaviours were being practiced at ORU by the Roberts elite. A number of highly placed ORU staff left long ago due to their insider knowledge of the goings-on there. They knew disclosure was inevitable and did not want to be associated with the fallout. Unfortunately certain of these did not learn from their experiences there and spread ORU’s infectious unethical practices to the new charismatic institutions they swarmed to such as TKC&S. If Jack Hayford is wise he will expose what has gone on behind the scenes of his institution before it is likewise too late.

  3. My cousin attended Pastor Jack’s college in California. She was disappointed that it was nothing near like what is espoused in his teachings. Not much spiritual life or passion among faculty or students. A great amount of Jack worship by the institution instead. Too bad. She left.
