Forgetful Or What?
Every year most of us go through a required ritual; filing tax returns.
But not all of us do so.
And now we know five such individuals and oddly enough they are all members of the Oklahoma Legislature.
According to the Oklahoma Tax Commission:
Representatives Jabar Shumate, D-Tulsa, Don Armes, R-Faxon, Ryan McMullen, D-Burns Flat, Senator Constance Johnson, D-Oklahoma City and House Speaker Lance Cargill have failed to file tax returns for at least one year and in some cases multiple years.
Reportedly Representative Shumate did not file taxes for five years; 1999, 2001, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
Most of the tardy tax filers blamed their tardiness on failures of their accountants, their own forgetfulness or in one case simply filing an extension to file a 2006 return.
And who knows maybe every one of them has a legitimate reason not to have filed their taxes.
However one can hardly help but wonder why it is that the folks that write our tax laws in Oklahoma can not remember to do what they demand that each of us do on a yearly basis.
Are they that forgetful or what?
