Senator David Myers Says ‘Fooled You’
State Senator David Myers, R-Ponca City, wants to snuff our butts and he has introduced Senate Bill 1875 to make it happen.
A mere five years after decreeing that separate “smoking rooms” were required for restaurants wishing to provide a smoking section for patrons, the Oklahoma Legislature will now consider and likely pass a new decree from on high totally banning smoking in not only restaurants but also all bars.
But wait.
Didn’t several Oklahoma businesses make major investments to comply with the previous smoking ban?
Yes they did, in some instances making major investments to add smoking rooms onto their facilities.
And now it appears that Oklahoma will say “fooled you” to those businesses.
Senator Myers, demonstrating the mentality that has made Oklahoma what it is today, says of the “smoking rooms” added under the 2003 law, “It will be an addition to their facilities”.
What escapes Senator Myers is the fact that had these restaurants needed the “addition to their facilities” they would have made the addition previously without being forced to do so by the previous “Okie Smoking Ban”.
That they did not do so tells the tale.
The additions were made solely to comply with the earlier smoking ban and will be simply wasted space and wasted dollars under the new smoking ban.
Of course Senator Myers in his thoughtfulness provides another five year “grace period” before his law takes effect for restaurants with smoking rooms.
What it does not do is provide any “grace period” for bars of any type, which would be required to go completely “smoke free” on November 1st of this year.
And to demonstrate the depth of Okie stupidity, Senator Myers wants to ban smoking in CIGAR BARS !!!
Hopefully a large number of Oklahomans will tell Senator Myers to “kiss our butts”.
Otherwise Oklahoma Senator David Myers will be snuffing them, right and left…
Dear Mr Myers,
You need to back off of the smokers. Smokers have rights too, or rather should have.
These business people have built specific rooms for smokers. They are not bother anyone else with their smoke. The business people have also spent a whole lot of money, only now to be told by some crazy fool that we were just kidding. So sorry you spent the money. If people don’t want to be around smoke now they don’t have too. As far as bars & hotels, the same goes. If people know that smoking exsists, they don’t have to go there. Hotels have rooms & floors seperate from non smokers & as far as bars go, bars are made for smoking & drinking, & socializing purposes.
This bill that you are trying to get pa**ed, is totally against the civil rights of smokers.
We will remember you when election time rolls around!!!
I will not vote for Myers if he chooses to run for re-election. With all the problems facing Oklahoma he chooses to spend his time with legislation abolishing my freedoms. Republicans are supposed to support less government regulation. I agree with the previous commentor that one has the choice to patronize a business and if they don’t like smoke, go elsewhere.
This is nothing less than extortion. They should all be jailed.
Its people like this man that need to be took out back of the barn and given a good case of old fashion learning. this goes to show you how all politicians may be good when they run for office and once in they are no different than our previous cigar playboy president we had. and now his loving face turned wife want to get her share of the big payday. goverment is no longer people for the people it who can bulls*** their way in to office so they can steal from the common person and get away with it. this is why i dont like politicians government doctors lawyers and the rich because you put them all in a bag and shake it up with a little cow s*** and the out flow is all s***. and common people have to smell it see it and accioate with it and work for its good not their own. its no wonder other countries hate the usa they can and do get a broad sence of what most are by watching the dam tv news. what is really bad is the medical field and the way the government and it work hand in hand to kill people. sorry to have gotten off in left field here but this man should be exiled from the usa as well as others like him….
